During laser engraving, the material is heated so strongly by the laser beam that the material evaporates or burns depending on the exposure time. Some materials, such as anodized aluminum, change colour on contact with the beam. The laser engraving thus produced is permanent and very resistant to abrasion.

Laser cutting is a type of process by thermal separation. The laser beam hits the material’s surface and heats it to melt or vaporize it completely. Once the laser beam has completely penetrated the material, the real cutting process begins. The laser system follows the selected geometry and separates the material during processing.
